Had a tool setback at a shop in Dayton, now I check offsets twice

Broke a $180 carbide end mill on a 4140 job because I trusted the previous operator's saved offsets, so I got a cheap digital height gauge and now I re-zero every single tool before a run, has anyone else gotten burned by leftover setup data from someone else's shift?
