Blew $400 on fancy endmill holders when a basic ER collet did the same job
After 6 months of running the same parts, I swapped back to my old collet setup on a whim and got identical finish and runout, so has anyone else paid extra for toolholders that just sit there looking pretty?

Did you actually measure the runout, or are you going off what the dial indicator feels like after a six pack? A couple tenths might not show up in your finish but it shows up over time in tool life, so that's the real cost. If the parts are identical and you're not burning through inserts, then yeah, you overpaid, but that's on you for buying hype instead of a test indicator.
