Why does nobody talk about how much better bus lanes are than adding one car lane?
So my city (Chattanooga) just finished a bus-only lane on one street. They spent $1.2 million and moved 3,000 riders a day through there. Meanwhile the plan to add one regular car lane on the same road cost $8 million and barely moved traffic at rush hour. One clearly worked better. Is the answer just that people hate waiting on a bus that comes every 20 minutes, or are we all too stuck on driving? Would love to hear if anyone has seen bus lanes actually change things where they live.
