Found out my town's recycling program stopped taking glass 8 months ago and nobody said a word
I was rinsing out a pasta sauce jar last week and noticed a tiny sticker on the bin at the transfer station that said glass goes in the trash now. Turns out our hauler dropped glass sorting back in July because the nearest buyer in Portland closed up, and the city just never put out a notice. I called the public works office and the guy said yeah, we meant to send a mailer out. Eight months of me hauling jars to a bin that just dumps them in the landfill anyway. If you care about this stuff, check with your hauler directly instead of trusting the sign at the drop off, because programs change all the time and the website stays stale.
