Am I the only one who counted 63 bikes at the Tucson swap meet and zero carpool spots?
Went to the big swap meet off 22nd Street last Saturday with my brother, mostly hunting for a cheap rear rack. What got me was the parking lot, I counted 63 bikes locked to anything that stood still, and right next to the main gate there was a sign for 4 carpool spots that sat empty the entire time I was there. Inside, a guy selling used panniers said he rides 9 miles each way to work and saves about $70 a week on gas, which he then spends on tacos, so not sure that's a real savings plan. It just hit me that everyone there was already doing the low carbon thing without calling it that. The city keeps talking about new bike lanes on Broadway, so I want to know if these swap meet folks would actually use them or if they just ride wherever. Anyone been to a swap like this and seen the same thing, or is Tucson just weird?
