Why does nobody talk about using shop vacs for final ash cleanup?

I used to just scoop ashes and sweep up the rest... took forever and still left a dusty mess. Last week I tried my buddy's shop vac with a fine dust filter on a job in Portland, and it cut my cleanup time from 30 minutes to maybe 8. Has anyone else switched to vacuuming for the last pass, or am I late to the party?

My buddy told me shop vacs with the right filters are pretty standard for guys who do a lot of wood stoves or fireplaces. Said it saves his back from all that sweeping and scooping.

Gotta respectfully disagree on this one. In my experience, even with a good filter, shop vacs just blow fine ash everywhere and it's never as clean as the old scoop-and-sweep method.
