Rant: got a shock from a wet flue in Tacoma, now I check weather before every job
Was sweeping a big run last Tuesday over in the industrial district. Rained all morning but the owner said the damper had been closed. Opened it up and shoved the brush in, next thing I know my arm is tingling from the elbow down. Turns out water had gotten in through a cracked crown and was sitting right on the liner where the antenna wire had worn through. Felt like a damn electric fence. Spent 2 hours redoing the whole setup with a grounding rod and insulated tools. Now I got a cheap moisture meter in my truck and if there's any chance of rain in the forecast I pull the cap and check for standing water first. Anyone else dealt with live wires near old clay tile liners? How do you spot that before you get bit?
