Spent $180 on a laser level and it paid for itself in one day
I've been doing carpet for about 8 years now and always just used a chalk line and a tape measure for layout. Last month I finally broke down and bought one of those self-leveling green laser things on sale for $180. Thought it was a gimmick but I had a big commercial job with like 12 doorways that all had to line up perfectly. Set it up in the hallway and snapped all my tack strip lines in about 20 minutes instead of the usual hour and a half. Customer even commented how straight the transitions looked. Has anyone else made the jump from chalk lines to lasers? I'm curious if the cheaper ones hold up on dusty job sites or if I got lucky with this one.
