Found out carpet seams fail way more often in rooms over 18 feet

I mean, I always knew long rooms were tricky, but I read a writeup from a flooring association last week that said seams in rooms over 18 feet have like a 30% higher chance of splitting within a year. That blew my mind. I've been doing this for a while and I guess I never really tracked the numbers, I just blamed it on bad glue or foot traffic. But now I'm wondering if I should start recommending a second seam or a different pattern direction on those big living rooms. Has anyone else run into this stat or do you just wing it like I did?
