Shoutout to the old timer who straightened out my miter saw technique

I was out on a job in Brentwood last Thursday installing crown molding and a retired carpenter walked by, stopped, and asked if I minded a tip. He showed me how to hold the saw handle with my thumb on top and let the weight do the work instead of pushing. I had been fighting that saw for two years and felt like an idiot when it cut clean on the first try with his method. Anyone else have a stranger on site teach you something simple that changed your whole approach?

Didn't I read somewhere that's how the old guys all used to cut crown?
