I thought the old timer was pulling my leg about scribing baseboards to the floor
Last month I was trimming out a 1920s bungalow in Portland and every baseboard was fighting the floor, one spot had a 3/8 inch gap. An old timer on the crew kept saying to scribe each piece to the floor instead of just caulking, and after the third room I tried it with a compass and a block plane. Took me almost 2 hours longer on that house, but did anyone else here start scribing and never go back?
Did you ever watch someone scribe a whole room and wonder why you waited so long to try it? My buddy does old house rehabs in Astoria and he swore by caulk for years until a floor guy showed him the compass trick on a porch beam. He says the extra hour per room is nothing compared to not getting callbacks.
