Heard a homeowner in Bellingham say they'd just nail their own deck ledger to the siding
They were at the lumber yard, telling a friend they'd skip the flashing and just use some caulk. I had to walk over and explain how that guarantees rot and a possible collapse. How often do you guys run into this kind of thing on estimates?

Reminds me of a neighbor who used duct tape for roof flashing.

Saw a post on a contractor forum where a guy bragged about using house wrap tape instead of proper flashing. The comments tore him apart for not understanding how water moves behind the siding. It's scary how common these shortcuts are.
