Unpopular opinion: my old boss's worst advice got me my current job
Back in 2019 my manager at a staffing office in Toledo said to never take a title cut, even for a few months, because it would follow me around. I ignored her and took a step down to get into a different department, and 14 months later that move got me a $9,000 raise. She meant well, but she was thinking about her own ladder, not mine. How do you all weigh a short-term step back against staying in a role you have outgrown?
