TIL a networking event in Austin taught me a hard lesson about follow-up

I was at a tech meetup last month and had a great chat with a hiring manager from a startup. I got their card, but I waited a full week to send a thank you email. When I finally did, they replied saying the role had already been filled internally. How soon do you all follow up after meeting someone?

Man, that's rough. I always send a follow up email the next morning, right after my coffee. What's the harm in being too quick? I figure if they liked talking to me, a fast reply shows I'm serious.

Yeah but waiting a day or two makes you look less desperate. Gives them time to miss you a little.
