Rant: my resume used to be 3 pages and now it's one, thanks to a recruiter in Cleveland
Two years ago my resume was three full pages and I was proud of it. Every job I ever had was on there, including a 4 month stint at a call center in 2016, plus a whole section for skills like "Microsoft Word" and "team player." I sent that thing to maybe 60 jobs and got 2 callbacks, and I thought the market was just rough. Then a recruiter in Cleveland looked at it during a screening call and just said "this is a novel, not a resume" and asked me to cut it to one page. It stung for about a day. I chopped the call center job, dropped the skills list down to 6 things that actually matter, and rewrote my bullet points so each one has a number in it. Next round of applications I got 5 interviews out of 15. Now I keep a messy master doc with everything and just trim it per job. How many pages are you all running, and did anyone ever tell you to cut yours?
Did you keep the master doc in a plain format so it's easy to trim? That's the part that saved me, keeping one long version with every job and bullet, then cutting it down fresh for each posting. My resume stays at one page now and the callbacks went up once I started doing that.
