My boss gave me advice that cost me a $4,000 raise and I'm still mad about it
About 8 months back I asked my manager at the warehouse what I needed to do to move up to floor manager. He sat me down and gave me this whole speech about how I should stop pushing so hard for the title and just 'let my work speak for itself.' He said the promotion would come to me when the time was right and I shouldn't be so focused on money. So I did what he said. I quit asking, quit bringing it up in my reviews, just kept my head down and ran the night shift crew better than anyone else on that floor. Six weeks ago they hired some guy from outside the company for the role, and I found out from a coworker that he started at $4,000 more than what I was told the position paid. I went to HR with my numbers, my attendance, my crew's pick rates, all of it ready. They told me the budget was already locked and I could 'revisit it next cycle.' Next cycle is 10 months away. So now I'm updating my resume on my lunch breaks and honestly the part that stings is I trusted a guy who had zero plan to ever actually help me. Has anyone else gotten the 'be patient' talk and then watched the job go to somebody off the street?
