Bought a $350 resume service and got zero interviews

I paid for a professional resume rewrite last month after being stuck in retail for years. They promised it would stand out to recruiters, but I sent it to 20 jobs and heard nothing back. Has anyone had luck with these services or is it all just templates dressed up?

My old roommate paid $400 for one of those and the only thing that changed was the font and the layout. She took the exact same job history with the same words and just rearranged it. Got nothing for months until she started tailoring each resume to the job posting herself, now she works at a bank. Honestly those services just make it look pretty but they don't know what the actual hiring manager wants for your specific field.
