Watching a tent collapse in a Wyoming windstorm taught me a lesson
It was my third night in the Wind River Range, and a gust just folded my old dome tent flat. I realized I'd been trusting a $50 tent from a big box store for years. What's the most durable 3-season tent you've actually tested in bad weather?

Honestly, that cheap tent probably did its job for years just fine. Most people aren't actually in Wyoming windstorms, they're in state parks. Spending hundreds on a tent for casual car camping is overkill.

Totally get that. My first tent was a thirty dollar special from a big box store. Lasted three whole seasons before a squirrel literally chewed through the corner. Thing smelled like mildew and the poles were awful, but it kept the rain off. Sometimes the cheap gear is exactly what you need to figure out if you even like sleeping outside.
