That $140 'ultralight' tent from the internet fell apart after 3 nights in Utah

I saw a deal online for a brand I'd never heard of and jumped on it. The poles bent like spaghetti the second night in Moab, and the zipper split right before a storm. I could've gotten a decent used tent from REI for that money. Has anyone else had luck with budget tents, or should I just save up for a known brand?

Point out that the zip and pole failure might not be about the price tag, plenty of folks have had $300 tents do the same thing. The real trick is checking the specs before you buy, like pole thickness and fabric denier, since a lot of these no-name brands copy the look but cheap out on the parts. Save for a known brand if you want peace of mind, but a little research can make a budget tent last a season or two.
