Park ranger showed me a bear bag trick after 12 years of ruined food

At Rocky Mountain National Park last summer, a ranger caught me tying my bag to a low branch and said "you're just feeding them dessert," then showed me the PCT method with two trees. Has anyone else learned a basic skill way late from a stranger at a campsite?

Same thing happened to me with fire starting. A guy at a site in Colorado showed me how to feather a stick with my knife after I'd struggled with wet wood for years. Stupid simple once you see it, and I've never gone back to my old way.
