Can we talk about tent stakes that actually hold in sandy soil?
I camped out at Great Sand Dunes last spring and my cheap aluminum stakes just pulled right out of the ground when the wind picked up around 2am. Switched to those 12 inch orange plastic spiral stakes before a trip to Padre Island this fall and they held solid through a whole weekend of 25mph gusts. Has anyone found a better option for soft ground that doesn't break the bank?

Those orange plastic spirals are actually pretty decent for sand. But she said "12 inch" ones - most of those are closer to 10 inches when you measure them out of the package. I bought a pack last month and noticed the length is usually the whole thing including the loop at top. Used them at White Sands and they worked fine for my four person tent in 20mph wind. The real trick is burying them at an angle away from the tent, not straight down. Most folks don't do that and wonder why they still pull free.
