Pro tip: the $8 rubber strap wrench that slipped on a stuck filter ring, and I'm still mad about it
Tried one of those rubber strap wrenches on a 50mm lens with a filter ring that was seized from being in a garage for 12 years. Everybody on here swears by them but the strap just spun on the knurling and I ended up putting a tiny bend in the ring near the threads. The thing that actually worked was soaking it with a drop of penetrating oil and letting it sit overnight in a ziplock bag by the window. Learned that rubber grips smooth glass fine but knurled metal needs the oil first. What do you all use for the really stubborn ones, or am I the last guy using a shoe sole and prayer?
