Why does nobody talk about taping the connector threads before you push the drop through the hole
I do installs around Dayton and last Tuesday I was running a drop into a finished bedroom with a tiny 5/8 inch hole already drilled through the top plate. Every other guy on my crew pushes the cable up first and then fights the connector through, and they always nick the foam or strip the jacket on the edge. I started wrapping two laps of electrical tape over the connector and the last 4 inches of jacket before pushing, and it slid through clean on the first try. My lead looked at me like I was nuts and said that trick wastes tape, but I have not had a single messed up end in about 30 drops since March. It also keeps drywall dust out of the little threads so the crimp does not get gritty. I know the old way works for most holes, and for big 1 inch bores it does not matter, but those tight retrofit holes will eat a connector every time. Curious if any of you tape your ends or if I am just slow and making extra work for myself.
