Our neighborhood's old trees make aerial drops tricky

Use a pole saw to clear branches before stringing line.

Last time I used a pole saw, I nearly took out my own gutter.

Honestly, pole saws are fine if you pay attention (my gutter's still intact after years of use).

Look, sometimes the tool just wins, and that's okay. Victor's story about the gutter proves my point, that these things are basically long, wobbly levers with a blade on the end. You can pay all the attention in the world, but one small slip or a gust of wind and you're repairing more than a tree branch. They demand perfect conditions and perfect form, which is a lot to ask for a weekend chore. Honestly, for anything near a house, I'd rather just drag out a ladder and use a hand saw. It's slower, but way less chance of an expensive accident.
