Hit my 500th cable run last Friday and the number hit different than I expected
I was doing a 3 story office job in Mesa and tagged the last drop of the day, then checked the app I use to log jobs since it keeps a running count. It showed 500 runs since January, which I honestly did not think I was anywhere close to. What got me was realizing how many of those were rework calls from the same two buildings where the drywall guys keep nicking my lines. I started wrapping the first 18 inches behind every plate with a scrap of split loom, and my callback rate on those two sites dropped from about 8 a month to 1. Anybody else track their numbers, or do you just eyeball it and hope for the best?
Watched a buddy of mine learn the same lesson the hard way on a hospital build over in Chandler. He never logged a single run, just went off gut feel, and swore he was around 300 for the year. Then his shop pulled the numbers for a bid review and he was sitting at 640, with almost a third of them being trips back to fix stuff he had already run. Turns out half his callbacks traced back to plates getting smacked by the drywall crew, same deal as your two buildings. He started doing the split loom trick on his lines too and his return visits basically got cut in half. The weird part is he had no idea how bad it was until somebody forced him to look at the count. So yeah, tracking it matters, because you cannot fix a number you never wrote down.
