Drove 90 minutes to a job in Council Bluffs and the drop was already buried behind drywall

Got the work order Friday morning, new install, second floor apartment, so I loaded the van and headed out. I get there and the lady says oh yeah the painters finished up Wednesday, they patched over the old outlet plate. Nobody from the office thought to tell me the drop was already run, so I'm standing in a finished hallway with a fish tape and zero options. I spent an hour poking around the closet wall looking for a slack loop that wasn't there. Do you guys call the office the second you smell a buried drop or do you just cut in and deal with the patch later?
