Best day on the job in 6 months vs worst day in 2 hours, same week
Two weeks back I had the kind of day that makes you love this job. Ran a full install in a new subdivision outside Columbus, 4 houses, every one had a clean pull through the attic, pre-drilled studs, and the homeowners were chill. Knocked it all out by 2pm, no callbacks, and the supervisor tossed me a $50 gift card for finishing the route early. Then Thursday hit and I spent 2 hours on one house in a 1970s split level with knob and tube wiring, a crawlspace full of spider webs, and a customer who watched me the whole time asking why the internet was still slow. By the end I had 3 splitters, 200 feet of coax, and a drill bit snapped off in a stud. So here is the debate: do you think those nightmare jobs make you a better installer, or do they just burn you out? I say they teach you tricks you never get on easy days. What do you all think?
