Rant: my band saw blade snapped mid pork loin and I blamed the wrong thing
Bought a 3-pack of blades from a supply house in Fresno back in March, and one let go right through a loin on a Tuesday morning rush. I called the shop ready to chew someone out, but the real issue was the guide bearings, both shot, letting the blade wander and work harden. Replaced the bearings and the other two blades have run clean for six weeks. Anyone else see blades blamed for what turns out to be a bearing or tension problem?
That "work harden" bit is the whole ballgame right there. Dull or wandering blade rubs instead of cuts, heats up the teeth, and next thing you know it cracks. I've had two blades pop on me and both times it was a tired bearing letting things walk. Cheap fix compared to burning through blades every couple weeks.
