Why does nobody talk about how much better a paper pick list is than a tablet in a loud warehouse
I run the floor at a small parts warehouse outside of Akron and for about 8 months we tried going all digital with tablets on the pick carts. Sounded great in the meetings. Then reality hit: gloves don't work on touchscreens, the wifi drops in aisle 7, and guys were standing there swiping instead of picking. Our picks per hour sat around 62 and nobody could figure out why. Two months back we printed paper pick lists again for the bulk zone, just to test it, and within a week that zone jumped to 88 picks an hour. Turns out people can glance at paper, fold it in a pocket, and keep moving, no logging in, no dead battery at 2pm. We still use the tablets for receiving because scanning barcodes there is honestly faster. But for picking, paper won and it wasn't even close. Curious if anyone else has zones where the old way beats the new way, or did we just set up the tablets wrong?
