Had a supplier tell me my PO numbering system was causing them to lose shipments

They said my dates were out of order and it confused their warehouse, so I switched to a project-based prefix instead, has anyone else had vendors criticize their internal ops and had to change things up?

Used to think the whole "just deal with it" approach was fine, but @perez.mia has a point. If it saves headaches down the line, changing your system for one supplier is worth it.

Oh man, the "dates out of order" thing got me too. I had a supplier tell me my PO numbers looked like random garbage because I was using the date we entered the order instead of the date the goods were supposed to ship. It was a total mess, they kept putting stuff on hold. I ended up switching to a prefix based on the vendor code and then a simple sequence number. It feels dumb to change your whole system for one person, but honestly it's been way smoother since.
