Why does nobody mention the annual fee trap on 'free' budgeting apps

I spent 3 years using that popular envelope app with a 30 day trial and never noticed the auto renew charge until I saw a $79.99 hit from Apple in my June statement. It took my bank's fraud alert flagging it as suspicious for me to look back at the fine print I clicked through in 2021. The app was fine for tracking but I could've done the same thing in a spreadsheet for zero dollars. Anyone else get burned by a subscription they forgot to cancel after the trial? How do you track those renewal dates now?
