The week I finally saw my emergency fund hit $1,000
It was about three months ago, right after a really slow January for roofing jobs. I was feeling pretty down, checking my bank account every day and just seeing the same couple hundred bucks. Then I got paid for a small repair job I did for a neighbor, and I decided to just throw the whole $300 into my savings account instead of using it for something else. That pushed the total to $1,027. It was the first time I'd ever had a full thousand set aside for real emergencies, not just money I was moving around. It felt solid, like I could finally breathe a little if a truck tire blew or a tool broke. I remember just staring at the number on my phone screen for a good five minutes. It took me almost two years of putting away little bits here and there to get there. Has anyone else had that moment where your savings finally felt like a real safety net instead of just an idea?

A thousand bucks is a start, but is it really a safety net? A single truck repair or a week without work could wipe that out. It's more like a buffer than actual security.

Right? My emergency fund is basically just for pizza emergencies at this point. I had to dip into it last month because my car's check engine light came on and the mechanic just said "yep, that's a light alright." There goes three months of saving.
