Just realized my friends think a budget means you're broke

I was at a BBQ yesterday and mentioned I finally got my grocery budget down to $75 a week. My friend Jake laughed and said 'sounds rough, man' like I was eating ramen every night. It's NOT about being poor, it's about being smart. I used to spend over $200 a week on random stuff and food waste. Now I plan meals, use cash back apps, and that extra $125 goes straight to my car payment. They see a limit and think 'lack' but I see control and a real plan. How do you explain that a budget is a tool, not a punishment?

Sounds like Jake's never felt the rush of seeing a debt number drop. That extra $125 on your car payment is real progress. Do you think he'd get it if you showed him the math? Like, here's what I wasted before, here's my plan now, here's the goal. Or is it just a totally different way of seeing money?

Actually, it's a $125 payment, not extra.
