Update: My $3 bus ticket gamble in Lisbon actually worked out

Last month, I was trying to get from the Alfama district to Belem on a super tight budget and bought a super cheap bus ticket from a kiosk that looked a bit sketchy. The bus driver took one look at it, shrugged, and let me on, saving me a 45 minute walk in the heat. Has anyone else had a weirdly good experience with those random ticket machines abroad?

My buddy once got a train ticket from a vending machine in Rome that worked for three days straight.

Wow, @emeryp23, that's a sweet glitch. Those Italian ticket machines are famously finicky though. I'd keep that ticket on me but still buy a new one to avoid the fine.
