Dawned on me after 8 years of travel that I was packing my backpack totally backwards
I was stuck in a hostel in Barcelona last spring, repacking my stuff for the 4th time that week cause I couldn't find anything without digging through the whole bag. This older guy from Scotland watched me for a minute then goes 'son, why do you have all your heavy junk at the bottom?' I laughed it off but after he left I actually thought about it. Turns out I had been putting my shoes and toiletries and my heavy jacket at the bottom and my shirts on top for years. Switched it around that same night and suddenly my backpack balances way better on my hips and I can grab my rain jacket without pulling everything out. Makes me wonder how many other simple habits I've been doing backwards this whole time. Anyone else have a travel routine that took them way too long to fix?

And here I thought my bad back was just from getting older, turns out it was from carrying my tent and stove underneath my t-shirts like a moron for five years. Switched everything around after reading a similar post and felt like I discovered fire for the second time. Now if only the same trick worked for my actual life problems, like putting my responsibilities on top and my bad decisions at the bottom.
