I finished my basement theater in Toledo on a $900 budget and had to pick between drop ceiling acoustic tiles or just painting the joists and ductwork flat black. I went with the black paint since tiles would have eaten half my budget, and the room actually feels way darker and more theater like than I expected. My only worry is echo, so I hung two cheap moving blankets behind the couch. Did anyone here go the other way with tiles and notice a real sound difference?
