Blew $200 on acoustic panels in Denver before admitting a $12 rug did more
For two years I glued foam squares to every wall and the echo in my basement was still awful, until my kid dropped a cheap 5x8 rug from the clearance bin at a Denver Goodwill and the clap test finally sounded dead. Anyone else skip the foam and just go heavy on soft stuff, curtains and rugs and couch cushions?
Same thing happens with car sound deadening, guys spend hundreds on fancy mats and the real fix is usually just stuffing old towels in the door panels. It's funny how often the cheap dumb solution beats the expensive technical one, like people buying pricey white noise machines when a box fan from Walmart does the same job for twenty bucks. Soft bulky stuff just kills sound, the physics don't care what you paid for it.
