My neighbor in Phoenix argued that dried beans aren't worth the time saved by canned.
He said the extra hour of cooking for a $2 bag versus a $1.50 can was a waste of electricity. Has anyone else run the numbers on this?

He's right, the math never works out for dried beans.

Hold up, he's only looking at the cost of one bag. A two dollar bag makes way more than one can of beans, doesn't it? You're comparing a single serving to several meals worth of food. The electricity cost for simmering a pot is pretty small over an hour.
