Wind knocked my scaffold down 2 days ago and it made me rethink how I stack block
Tuesday morning a gust caught my scaffold before I had it tied off and the whole thing tipped over onto the lawn, bounced once, and landed in the petunias. Cost me about 3 hours of setup and a bent walk board, plus a very unhappy homeowner watching from her kitchen window. The thing is I have been stacking block heavy side up on the second course for years, and watching those 40 pounders sit loose on the planks is what got me. If the boards had been flexing like they do under a real load instead of sitting empty, that wind might not have been enough to tip it. I spent Wednesday redoing tie-ins with anchors on every standard at 4 foot spacing instead of 8, and it feels way more solid. Do you all tie off to the wall as you go up, or do you leave the scaffold free standing until it gets too high?
