Used to lay brick with a 12-inch trowel for everything until a old timer handed me his 10-inch on a chimney job last spring

My corners came out cleaner, my mortar spread got way more even, and I realized I'd been fighting the wrong tool for years just because the bigger one felt more 'professional' - anyone else stick with a trowel size they grabbed first and never questioned it?

Oh man, @baker.simon is totally right! I switched to an 8-inch for brick a few years back and it honestly felt like cheating - my joints came out so much tighter and I wasn't fighting mud that kept falling off the blade. Makes you wonder what other little tricks we're all missing out on.

Wait, a 10-inch trowel for brick? Most guys use a 10 for block but an 8 for brick, that's the real old timer trick.
