My trowel handle snapped during a 90 degree pour in Tucson and the crew saved my day with a roll of duct tape
I was laying a 40 foot block wall on a rush job last Wednesday when the wooden handle split right at the ferrule. Has anyone else had a handle fail mid-course like that, or am I the only one still buying the cheap wooden ones instead of switching to rubber grips.
Wrapping duct tape around a busted ferrule is basically the mason's version of a tourniquet, ugly but it keeps you alive till the end of the pour. Ninety degrees in Tucson sounds brutal too, the heat alone probably had that wood handle dry rotted long before it gave out on you. I switched to a rubber grip after my third handle split and never looked back, the extra ten bucks stings once but a snapped handle mid course stings all day.
