I built two chimneys last month, one with a standard trowel and one with a brick trowel. The difference was huge.

Yeah, the right trowel is a game changer for sure.

Oh man, @victor_perry90, you're so right. I fought with a cheap trowel for years, always getting ridges. Switched to a 3/8" notch for my last backsplash and it was like butter, perfect coverage every time.
