Had a job in Detroit that made me rethink how I lay brick in winter

I used to think you just press hard on the mortar no matter the temp. Then last January on a site near the river, my wall was crumbling 2 days later because I didnt let the mortar hydrate slow enough in the cold. Has anyone else had to adjust their mix for freezing temps or just me?

press hard on the mortar no matter the temp" - yeah, that'll get you. I switched to a slower set mix with a little extra lime. Let it hydrate gradual, no issues since.
