Guy on my crew in Baltimore showed me how he levels a course with a string line and a torpedo level, and I haven't gone back
Marcus has been laying block for 22 years and he doesn't own a laser level, which blew my mind. Last Tuesday we were doing a foundation wall on a rowhouse off Pratt St and he caught a 3/8 inch rise in his second course before the mud even set. He just ran a string from corner to corner, eyeballed it, then checked with a $12 torpedo level and tapped the block down with his trowel handle. My fancy setup missed it completely. Anyone here still run string lines on long walls, or am I the only one who got spoiled by lasers?
