A site foreman told me my corners looked 'sloppy as hell' and made me redo them

I was working a job in Raleigh last month, laying brick for a new retaining wall. The foreman came by, looked at my corners, and said they looked like I did them in the dark. I was pissed at first, but he showed me how I was rushing the plumb check on each course. Now I slow down and use a level after every single brick on the corner, not just every third one. Has anyone else had a supervisor call out something that actually made you better?

So did it change how you look at your own work now, or are you still just doing it because he told you to? I think the real test is when you start catching your own mistakes before anyone else does. That's when you know it actually stuck with you. My old foreman used to say "a man who waits to be told he's wrong is just a slow learner" - kind of harsh but he wasn't wrong. Has that feeling of being called out ever really gone away for you?

Foreman at my last site did the same thing with my corners. Hated it at first but now I'm way more consistent.
