Hot take: Sourdough starters went from family secret to internet trend

I remember when keeping a sourdough starter was something only a few people did. My aunt had one passed down, and it felt special. Now, I see tons of posts online from beginners sharing their first attempts. It's great that so many are learning, but it feels different. Back then, you learned from someone in person or from an old cookbook. Today, you can watch a video and get started in minutes. I guess I miss the slow, personal touch of it all.

Totally get that. Feels like it lost some of its soul.

Hear me out though, maybe new blood is exactly what it needed. Sticking too close to the old ways can make things feel stale and predictable after a while. A fresh team brings different ideas that can actually breathe new life into something instead of just repeating what worked before.

People forget that when the original team moves on, the magic often goes with them. New hires might have the skills but not the same passion for the core ideas. They chase trends instead of building on what worked. The soul was in those small details only the creators cared about. Does that match what you've seen happen?
