Warning: a guy at the plant swap in Eugene gave me a tip that saved my ferns
I was at the monthly plant swap in Eugene, and my ferns looked awful... all brown on the edges. This older guy named Carl saw me looking at them and said, 'Kid, you're watering them with city water, aren't you?' He told me to fill a bucket and let it sit for a full day before using it, so the chlorine can evaporate. I've been doing that for about two months now, and the new fronds are totally green. Has anyone else found a simple fix like this for a plant that was just struggling?

My spider plant was doing the same thing last year, all crispy tips. I started using leftover water from my dehumidifier and it was like a total turnaround. I mean, it's basically free distilled water, so maybe that's the real trick.

That chlorine trick works for my peace lilies too. I just keep a gallon jug by the sink and fill it after I water.
