PSA: I was wrong about watering my fiddle leaf fig every seven days

For two years, I stuck to a strict schedule, watering my plant every Tuesday morning. It never thrived, just got more yellow leaves. The tip off was a friend in Tucson who said she only waters hers when the top two inches of soil are bone dry, which for her is about every 12 days. I tried her method for a month, and the plant pushed out three new leaves. I think the common advice for a weekly schedule is too rigid and ignores things like humidity and light. Has anyone else found that a set watering day actually hurt their plants?

But what if your home is super dry? @abby698, my peace lily actually loves a set day because I forget otherwise.

Did you also kill a peace lily that way?
