My neighbor swears her tomatoes grow better in pots than in the ground, and now I don't know what to think
Last Saturday I was out back repotting a sad looking basil plant when my neighbor Carol leaned over the fence and told me she has grown tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets for 15 years because her soil out here in Modesto is full of clay. I always figured plants want to stretch their roots out in real dirt, so I kind of brushed it off. But she walked me over to her patio and her cherry tomato plant was loaded with fruit while mine in the ground is barely knee high. Now I am torn, is container growing actually better for some plants, or does she just have a good setup and I am overthinking it? Would love to hear from folks who have tried both ways.
