Just found out native bees need mud, not just flowers

I was reading a study from Oregon State that said 60% of native bees nest in the ground, and they need damp soil nearby to build those little mud tunnels. I never thought about it before, but my yard is basically all mulch and no bare dirt. Has anyone else added a muddy patch and seen more bee activity?
